To find a dataset of measures within the domain of the urban object you have been researching.
Exercise Instructions
Now that you understand your urban object and have a specific research question, you will procure a public, private, or proprietary dataset to answer the question.
Original public / private dataset in CSV / JSON format.
Iterated data table in CSV / JSON format. Must include all required data outputs.
A short paragraph about how you found the dataset, where it came from, and how you transformed your data table to merge the source data.
Proprietary Data
Your research question, research plan, and test plan.
Your new dataset in CSV / JSON format.
Iterated data table in CSV / JSON format. Must include all required data outputs.
A short paragraph about your experience and what you learned during data collection.
Data Representation Instructions
Finalizing Research Question
Finalize the research question about your urban object.
The research question should include the landscape variable, part parameter, and/or environmental parameter from your data table.
Think through the geographic and temporal scale of your research question to make it targeted and specific, and to help you think through how you might collect your data. The more specific you are in scale, the more likely it is that you will need to procure a private or proprietary dataset.
Selecting Data
Given the part parameter, environmental parameter, or landscape variable that you've developed in your data table, do research on how you might collect the actual data. You must be able to collect at least one data element.
You may find a public dataset, email someone to get a private dataset, or collect the data yourself through your phone or by purchasing a sensor.
Public / Private Data
If you cannot find a public or private dataset that can answer your research question, you may choose to explore the dataset and iterate on your research question, or switch to a different strategy altogether.
By the end of this assignment, you should understand how your third-party dataset will answer your research question.
You will need to iterate on your data table to append their dataset structure with your current data table to produce the required data outputs.
Proprietary Data
If you will be procuring your own data, write down your research question and prepare a plan for data collection that will allow you to answer your research question.
Create a testing plan that includes exporting the data out and inspecting the data structure.
Collect the data.
Iterate on your data table to append the dataset you've collected with your current data table.
